151008_0942_0949_NX1 New York's Lower Hudson Valley from Bear Mountain

This early October image is from my first hike of the season specifically to capture the changing palette of Autumn in my area. The panorama spans 160deg, looking north up the Hudson River on the left to south over Harriman State Park on the right. From a higher elevation than the ledge near the Appalachian Trail where this image was created, the NYC skyline could be seen over 40 miles away beyond the hills on the right.

Seven handheld images from the Samsung NX1 with 16-50mm f/2.0-2.8 S lens set to 28mm (43mm FF) were stitched in Microsoft ICE v2.0.3 to create this panorama. The original print is six feet wide and retains good levels of detail in the cars on the bridge and buildings on Iona Island. I waited for more than an hour on the ledge for the light I wanted as the sun descended in and out of the clouds. But it was very relaxing while I enjoyed watching the raptors fly over the valley hunting for their last meal of the day.
